'Corrupted to their very core': Whistleblowers say DOJ, FBI show political bias in investigations

A number of FBI whistleblowers claim that the bureau and the Department of Justice have selectively followed federal standards, opening investigations of conservative leaders without adequate justification.

In a press release issued Monday, ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley highlighted whistleblower allegations that "Washington Field Office Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault disregarded agency guidelines requiring substantial factual predication to trigger investigations."

Grassley's office stated that Thibault was instrumental in opening an investigation into the Trump campaign using information from a "left-aligned organization" and that he whitewashed the source's biases in order to persuade FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland to open an investigation.

Furthermore, the whistleblowers claim that Thibault sought to deliberately dismiss valid information against Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden's son, about his money and international business transactions.

Grassley wrote to Wray and Garland last week to address the charges against Thibault, making strong statements about the status of the American judicial system if they are proven accurate.

"If these allegations are true and accurate, the Justice Department and FBI are – and have been – institutionally corrupted to their very core to the point in which the United States Congress and the American people will have no confidence in the equal application of the law," he noted.

In late May, Iowa Senator Tom Harkin wrote to Wray, Garland, and Inspector General Michael Horowitz to draw their attention to highly heated social media remarks Thibault made about Republicans.
