Rudy Giuliani’s Home And Office Searched By Federal Investigators, Executing Search Warrant. Lawyer Slams ‘Legal Thuggery’

Federal investigators have reportedly executed a search warrant at Rudy Giuliani's Manhattan apartment and office, according to initial reports.

According to The New York Times, “prosecutors obtained the search warrants as part of an investigation into whether Mr. Giuliani broke lobbying laws as President Trump's personal lawyer.”

The search warrants were allegedly executed early Wednesday morning at the former New York City mayor's home and office. The move by federal investigators represents a significant ramp-up in "a criminal investigation into Mr. Giuliani's dealings in Ukraine," according to "three people with knowledge of the investigation."

“The investigation into Giuliani revolves around his interactions with Ukrainian figures ahead of last year's presidential election, as he sought information that could prove politically damaging to then-candidate Joe Biden and pressed for the removal of the US ambassador to Ukraine,” according to the Washington Post. “He has not been charged and has denied wrongdoing,” CNN noted.

The New York Times reported that “at about 6 a.m., investigators seized Mr. Giuliani's electronic devices and searched his apartment on Madison Avenue and his office on Park Avenue,” adding that “the execution of search warrants is an extraordinary action for prosecutors to take against a lawyer, let alone a lawyer for a former president.”

According to The New York Times, Giuliani's lawyer, Robert J. Costello, described the actions as "legal thuggery," adding that the searches were "unnecessary" because "his client had offered to answer prosecutors' questions, except those concerning Mr. Giuliani's privileged communications with the former president."

“What they did today was legal thuggery,” Costello said. “Why would you do this to anyone, let alone the associate attorney general, the US attorney, the mayor of New York City, and the personal lawyer to the 45th president of the United States?”

The US Attorney's Office in Manhattan, as well as the FBI, have "long sought to obtain a search warrant for Giuliani's cellular devices," according to The Washington Examiner. “Senior political appointees in the Justice Department under Trump repeatedly sought to block a search warrant on the former mayor,” according to the outlet.
