Panama's foreign minister, Erika Mouynes, claims that the Biden administration was notified ahead of time that hundreds of Haitians were on their way to the United States.
In Del Rio, Texas, some 15,000 migrants recently arrived. Some were deported, but the bulk were released into American communities while their asylum claims were assessed, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
According to Axios, Mouynes claims that an additional 60,000 migrants are on their way to the United States. Many Haitian migrants pass through Panama on their way to the United States.
Around 20,000 Haitian migrants are also attempting to enter the United States through Colombia.
According to NPR, the Haitian migrants are camped out at Necocl Beach, which is currently at capacity owing to the influx of migrants. According to a report by NPR, "many" of the migrants waiting in Colombia believe President Biden has a "better chance" of staying in the United States than former President Trump.
"Donald Trump lost the election so I'm giving it a try," a Haitian migrant ready to leave Colombia on a journey to the United States remarked.
According to reports, Panama and Colombia have reached an agreement to combat illegal migration.
It's unknown why so many Haitian migrants have been able to safely transit Colombia and Panama on their way to the US-Mexico border. Before the story was published, the Panamanian and Colombian embassies in Washington did not respond to requests for comment.
